We are facing an unprecedented situation in the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic. On March 23, pursuant to executive order 2020-21 (Stay Home, Stay Safe), Governor Whitmer issued a “Shelter in Place” order for Michigan residents – with some exceptions – effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 24. The Shelter In Place guidelines from Executive Order 2020-21 have been subsequently amended and extended many times.
But sheltering in place just isn’t something the agriculture industry can do. Animals need to be fed and preparations need to be made for the quickly-approaching crop season.
The executive order recognizes that many businesses cannot shut down and, as producers of food and feed products, ZFS Ithaca, LLC and its affiliates are exempt from the order. In summary, through these difficult times, we remain open and are committed to serving our customers to the fullest.
The new ZFS Ithaca soy processing plant of in Ithaca, Michigan continues to operate, producing soybean meal, hulls and oil. The Zeeland Farm Services plant in Zeeland, Michigan is also fully operational, and is producing co-products as well.
ZFS and ZFS Ithaca are receiving beans and loading trucks as usual, and Zeeland Freight Services, LLC will continue to serve customers of both operations with on farm delivery and pick-up, as well as delivery of soybean oil to food producers and distributors.
Because the health and safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance, some small changes have been made to the operational standards at ZFS Ithaca and Zeeland Farm Services. Specifically, we ask that drivers remain with their trucks or at the scale booths as much as possible, and follow the guidelines of social distancing that have been issued by the State of Michigan, including limiting direct contact with employees inside the scale house. Our employees have been instructed to do the same.
If you do need to enter any ZFS facility, we ask that you please wear one of the required face masks.
We are in this together and appreciate your cooperation.
If you have any questions, please call us at (989) 449-6100. We may not have all the answers, but we’ll do our best to work it out together.
Thank you for thinking of others during these trying times and abiding by our new standards.
From all of us at ZFS Ithaca, we’re praying for a safe and healthy planting season for you and your family.
